HC3S served up another great NSMW for 2022

Amanda Whatley and her team at HC3S Hampshire school meals service went all out for NSMW22 with a week packed full of events to help children make a difference to the planet. They put together some impressive plans.

Alderwood secondary school in conjunction with Bidfood, ran a Go green lunch with over 170 Year 7 students having a presentation earlier in the week during assembly about food that’s good for their physical health, psychologically wellbeing and how they can eat responsibly. On the day, they were served new vegan and plant-based food, some of which was made from using up banana and melon skins. Market research was carried out to discover what they liked and would eat again.

At Fleet Infant, Councillor Forster visited school during VIP day to meet the headteacher and our catering team and stayed for a lunch with pupils. Also in attendance was Carol Stebbing, Head of Service and Patrick Blogg, Director.

During Manor Field Infant School’s Eat more, waste less day, Youngs Seafood held a whole school assembly to promote eating fish as part of a balanced diet and the benefits this delivers.  There were also discussions with pupils about protecting the marine environment and not wasting food. Children got to make a fish fingers and were educated on the process, speaking about how every part of the fish is used and how we minimise waste, talking about the goodness coming from the fillet . For the practical part of the day, with the children learnt all about Pollock fish and how they tend to swim at deeper depths the older they become, so we trawl the older, larger fish first, they also learnt about the protection of the marine environment and the importance of fishing responsibly.

Follow them on social media and have a look back over the week to see if you get any inspriation for NSMW23. If you have any stories you would like featuring on the NSMW news page please contact admin@laca.co.uk
