What a week National School Meals Week 2025 was!
A big thank you to everyone who took part in NSMW25, it was great to see so many schools and caterers getting involved. We know running special events at lunchtime is the perfect way to get more children eating hot healthy meals regularly.
It was brilliant to see the events up and down the country. Please check the socials using the details below for a round up of the week. We will be posting and sharing more great events over the next few weeks.
We will also be doing a round up for various publications and completing the 2025 gallery, so if you would like to be involved please send your stories and photos to mail@laca.co.uk
The date for NSMW26 will be announced in the coming weeks, keep checking back and following us on the socials
If you didn’t get chance to take part in NSMW25, there is still time! the resources are available on the website, so you can create your own week.
Here’s what we did during the week
As part of the NSMW25 promotions, LACA showcased just some of the many benefits of enjoying a school lunch as we launch the School lunch skills for life Initiative
During each day of NSMW, LACA actively promoted one of the many benefits each day as set out below, five in total to correspond to the five days of the week.
Monday – Cooking together: we will work to encourage pupils to get involved in cooking, asking caterers to share recipes for pupils (and parents) to download and try at home. We will also signpost LACAs Apprenticeship for those secondary school students who may be interested in a career in catering. School caterers can show the ingredients they have used to make certain dishes and run taster days in school.
Tuesday – Nutrition: Educating children as to what a balanced meal looks like, giving them skills to make the right choice at meal times and snack time. Educational activity sheet that teachers can use in class and children will enjoy completing will be available. Plenty to talk about here with regards to a balanced meal and eating ‘5 A Day’.
Wednesday – Community: will inform pupils as to where their school food comes from. No NSMW can go past without including such important messages. School caterers use a lot of local seasonal produce and support local businesses and employment. Wednesday will feature the traditional Roast Lunch
Thursday – Environmental: School caterers do a lot to reduce their food miles and reduce waste in general. We will encourage pupils to take an interest in this area. Who knows, we might create some Eco warriors, keen to hep keep our planet bin good order.
Friday – Social: The importance of eating together, learning how to use a knife and fork, being sociable and kind whilst enjoying school food. A day to invite VIPS and showcase the best of school meals.
